Live Inspired Now blog: The No. 1 gift they will never forget!

In our home, we don't give birthday "presents," rather we give birthday "experiences!" I have shared about this before, but it's been a while so let me tell you what we did this year for the kids' birthdays!

We took Harry to the "Vidcon" Conference in California. He loved it! Not only did he get to meet his favorite famous "youtubers," but he learned some great new techniques for making videos, and he networked with fellow "youtube" friends and fans! Harry says it was one of the best trips he has ever been on!

Ethan wanted to go to the "big Chuck E Cheese" in Rhode Island. We told him that we couldn't pull it off, and that we would just do something else instead. So when we went to Rhode Island, shortly before his birthday, he was completely surprised when we brought him to his surprise party at the "big Chuck E Cheese!" You couldn't have pried the smile off of his face with a crowbar!

Carrie Sue wanted to take a mother/daughter trip to Rhode Island. We had a blast! We had tons of time on the road trip to talk and laugh and even make silly videos. Then while in Rhode Island, we visited her favorite stores and spent time with Grandma and Grandpa! Carrie still talks about the trip and wants to go again next year!

My daughter Madalyn wanted to go to the "Cake Boss" store in New Jersey. I planned the visit around a Tony Robbins; Unleash The Power Within Conference and took her to both! She LOVED it! We visited the cake boss bakery and then Mattie spent four energy-packed days at the "UPW" conference! She walked on fire, had some major breakthroughs, and wants to go to the conference next summer!

The kids love going on amazing adventures and doing fun things for their birthdays. The biggest thing that I love about it, is that the memories we create will stay with them for a lifetime. Much longer than a plastic toy or electronic device that they will eventually stop playing with and forget about!

We don't always do such extravagant events, sometimes they are as simple as going to a show or concert. It's about sharing the experience, spending time together, and creating loving memories! So think about how you might "do" something for your loved one instead of buying something! Create memories that will last forever, and Live Inspired Now!

Hugh Jackman Treated For Skin Cancer

Hugh Jackman was recently treated for skin cancer.

The Wolverine star shared the news on Thursday, posting an Instagram photo of his bandaged nose (see right) and explaining to fans what had happened after his wife Deborra-Lee Furness urged him to visit a doctor.

He wrote, “Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a [basal] cell carcinoma. Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”

Basal cell carcinomas, typically caused by intense UV exposure, are rarely life-threatening, but can be disfiguring and destructive to tissue if left untreated.

We’re glad to hear Jackman got his checked out.

Spark Collaborative: Self-Help Genius

[Trendzilla] Linsi Brownson helps small entrepreneurs reach their goals with tough love

"Sometimes, life is a shit salad," says Linsi Brownson, and it sounds strange coming from a blonde so cute you just want to squeeze her. She's the owner of Spark Collaborative (www.sparkcollaborative.com), a company that aims to be your small business's partner in crime, and her brass-tacks approach to making a name for yourself is what's missing from most self-help books and seminars.

Spark Collaborative is many things. On the ground level, she and a few teammates take care of such business basics as graphic design, website building and marketing. But they also help you understand your branding and deeper goals.

"We're hopeful and inspiring, but not in a sissy way," Brownson explains. That model reflects the duality of her own personality. She grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota—or, as Brownson calls it, "White Cloud," due to the, erm, lack of anyone darker than a snowman—then moved to California at 19 for design school and some culture. From interior designing to owning an e-commerce furniture store with her droll husband, she has been through business successes and failures, but she believes that's what puts her in the best position to help others. Think Tony Robbins, but with less claptrap.

"I don't like the hoohahs out there who preach that success is all about the law of attraction," she says. "It's not that I don't have a spiritual side; I just don't want to represent a pretty-princess world for small business." Spark wants its clients to be self-reliant and to teach them systematic approaches that will make goals less daunting. "Your outlook can have a big impact on your reality," Brownson points out, "but it's not going to get you a million-dollar order in two weeks."

Spark Collaborative offers online classes; free blogs (including Brownson's latest, "52 Business Lessons I Learned the Hard Way"); and "Kalideascope" sessions, two-hour blocks of one-on-one consulting and brainstorming. Brownson believes companies would be more successful if they didn't lose the human touch; she always tries to operate like a real person.

"Plus, then I can say, 'shit' and, 'damn'!" she says, laughing.

Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar

Barclays Center
11/19/13

Better Than: Every ill-conceived "I'ma let you finish, but..." joke ever told, shouted down a well in the Hamptons; popping a wheelie on the Zeitgeist.
One wonders: who's the billionaire that called Kanye West on the phone recently to tell him he didn't like the way he's going about things, that he didn't like how he's conducting himself in interviews? Kanye told the packed stadium at Barclays last night about the call just after the midway point of his sprawling, spectacular, and engaging two-plus hour behemoth of a Yeezus Tour show. "He wanted to give me some advice," he told us from his knees, exasperated, masked (more on that in a sec) but nowhere near anonymous. If you've followed Ye's career at all--college dropout, can't be told nothin', unapologetic even while being apologetic, a self-proclaimed God--you know how the call ended.

Not well. No one gives Kanye West advice he hasn't asked for. Because no one, at just 36 years of age, has made it this far, has been this good for this long. (As it turns out, it truly is hard to be humble when you're stuntin' on a jumbotron.) Besides, none of the people who clamor to give Kanye advice "can rock the 15,000 motherfuckers in here tonight!" like he can.

And did.

This anecdote-turned-self-help-speech (please stop calling them rants) was one of a few during the night, most with the overarching theme that the assembled mass should, on some Rap Game Tony Robbins shit, always believe in themselves, even when told they shouldn't. At other times, Kanye admonished the crowd for not knowing the various names of inventors he was dropping or who directed The Holy Mountain (which clearly inspired the Yeezus Tour aesthetic). He also told us his creative genius is a curse, not a blessing, because "ALL THESE IDEAS KEEP ME UP AT NIGHT!" (x15)

These jaunts down the unrehearsed avenues of Kanye's mind were everything we've come to expect--brash, egotistical, not fully formed, melodramatic, easily-mockable. Also: fascinating. And not just because they came from a man dressed like this:
